On Sunday morning I spotted a mzungu out jogging. Said hello as he passed me, and noticed he was wearing a Bintang singlet. Tidy. Don't see many of those in Nairobi.
I wished I'd thought quick enough to greet him in Indonesian. If I hadn't been so hungover then I might have.
Then he passed me again on the way home. This time I sang out with a cheery, "Selamat siang!" He loved it. Well, it earned a grin, but I think he was too busy puffing to laugh.
Two things occur to me.
One, it's well past time I started jogging again. I've been working out on a semi-regular basis and doing plenty of walking, but no jogging. I know the place well enough now and the weather's awesome, so no more excuses.
Two, I'll have to dust off my Beerlao singlet and wear it when jogging, just to see if anyone spots me and yells out, "Sabaidii!"

Start wearing your VB boxers. You know you want to.
When I was in Bali I thought hello was "you buy".
Ken, I'll send you some photos!
I know what you mean, Wah. Twas like that even in a few quieter spots we visited last year. Hey, did you ever hear my Hello Mister! story?
